As this is my last semester, I was thinking of which electives to take. Aim: 0 final examination. My friend recommended me ES2007 which has no final examination but warned me that it is of very heavy workload. Despite the warning, I went on to take this module anyway. OH MY GOD! It turns out that this is the only module that I have to touch on a weekly basis, if not, daily. In terms of workload, this is by far the heaviest among all my other modules and what a way to end off my last semester in NUS!
However, I never regretted taking up this module as I have learned things that I would have never learned from all my other modules. I used to consider myself to have high EQ, but this module just expose the problems that I might have when it comes to handling interpersonal relationship. Also,I was thankful that I picked up many valuable and essential skills I am lacking. Job Interview, Resume Writing, Effective Communication, just to mention a few. These skills comes in handy right now even when I am just chatting with my friends.
I believe each and everyone in the class make this possible, including our tutor, Ms Lim. I guess we were quite united and that makes learning even easier. Working together on peer teaching, project proposals etc with different groups of people, I thought it was a good move by Ms Lim to bond the class together and practise what we have learned in the first 2 lessons: Effective Communications. Not only are we just people in the same tutorial slot, we were also friends. Having lunch after class for those who were free, gossiping about ***** and ****** saying how compatible they were etc. was just pure fun.
Also, I would like to thank Ms Lim for being such a wonderful tutor. Exuding positive energy throughout the whole class and very engaging to the students, it is of little wonder that no one falls asleep during class. Not only that, this is the 1st time that I know of a tutor that goes all the way out, calling students to give feedbacks, making sure they are on the right track. It makes me feels like a primary school kid and I deeply appreciate these efforts.
As I do not have blog previously and neither do I keep a diary, I am not quite sure how a blog should be written. Anyhow, I believe that writing a blog would be a good idea to help me formulate and organise my thoughts and allow me to learn how to write with respect to the 7Cs.
All in all, although ES2007s is a VERY intensive module, I have never regretted taking up this module. I will recommend it to anyone who would want to learn skills that can be applied to your daily lives(trust me, you will forget others that you learned during your entire school life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kO8x8eoU3L4)
All the best to everyone!!
Hey S.A.M.!
ReplyDeleteYou brought up a good point about how the bonded-ness of the class facilitated our learning process. I totally agree with you, I couldn't have absorbed so much from the course if it weren't for the active participation and general comfort level in our class. Which is what made ES2007S all the more special!
And if I'm not wrong YOU are the one who started the gossip on ******* and ****** weren't you? But after thinking about it for a bit, I think you might be right. hahahaha.
All the best for your future endeavours man. Hope to bump into each other (or even play soccer again) soon! =]

Hey Cai Jie (Sam),
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear your good feedbacks and learning points from this module. Similarly, I never regretted taking this module despite the intensity and I'm glad that I listen to my heart and not be discouraged from friends advice. I'm already recommending this module to my other friends. I guess at the end of the day, it is because of the intensity that makes the module more memorable and more worthwhile. Filling up the student online survey yesterday made me realize that all the other modules pale in comparison to the deep impression that ES2007S has made in this semester. It is definitely rewarding to learn how to step out of our comfort zone.
Thankfully the class size is small enough to enable the extra bonding among classmates. And I think it's also the timing which allows us to have lunch straight after the module. Thanks Cai Jie for always initiating group lunch. It was fun to have other conversations apart from ES after lessons.
Anyway, it's been great partnering with you! :) All the Best for your final Finals! Work Hard!
Hey Cai Jie,
ReplyDeleteIt is pleasing to hear how the module has taught you so much. It forces another side of us to emerge. A side which pays more attention to the small yet important details in communication.
You are right about Ms Lim. She played an important role in keeping us engage and working with each other. I admire how she has given all of us quality critical feedbacks on our assignments.
Good luck for your final exams man! Hope you'll get your dream job soon!
Hey Cai Jie,
ReplyDeleteUp till now, I have no idea why you're called Sam! But anyway, I hoped you managed to achieve your goal of zero finals.
I have to agree with you, tutors like Ms Lim are a rare find in NUS (or maybe it's just Science?). This has been the most engaging module i've taken in my coming-to 2 years in NUS. Glad to see that everyone (myself included) has benefited a lot from the module! =)
You know, I've imagined what it must be like, to be graduating from NUS after this semester. To be honest, I can't really picture myself dressing up and going for a real job interview at this point in time. Since you're graduating, all the best, and use the skills that you've learnt in the module to impress your future employers! =)
Hey Sam,
ReplyDeleteThank you for starting the gossip between them. It was also an enjoying experience for me despite the heavy work load.
Although the module name is called Professional Communication, I believe what we learn will also benefit out daily life especially in trying to see if the person are unhappy or disapproval of what people say.
The chances of working with you are almost zero but we can still meet up for lunch to catch up? Last but not least, I hope for all the best for your future!
Hey Sam,
ReplyDeleteThanks for getting me to take this module with you when I didn't know what to take (: I remember making a lot of noise about taking it as I was scared about the workload, but you told me to just wing it anyway. I don't regret that now (:
I agree with you that we learn things that are different from other modules. I'm sure that whatever we've learnt will take more than 5 minutes to teach in Father Sarducci's university (what an awesome video). All the skills we've learnt took a lot of hard work to pick up, but they'll definitely be very useful.
I agree with Vee Nee that all my other modules cannot match up to this one at all. If you think about it, it's really sad as my other modules represent the majority of classes in NUS. It'll be hard to find another ES2007S ):
Nevertheless, it has been awesome taking such a module with you. Have fun on your grad trip and see you in D&D (:
